GenCon 2009, Aug 13 - 16 2009

Photos from GenCon 2009.

We started GenCon off right: with breakfast buffet at the Marriott restaurant. Rachel lucked out and got a fancy drink with her breakfast as the maanger apologized for the troubles with her room, earlier.

Gary burned his "Special" token, and received a Dryad NPC character to follow him on his adventure. Unfortunately, he couldn't keep the actress... but he did get the character card and a slider to take with him through the dungeon.

Our Golden Ticket (Nightmare!) party. We survived the Dungeon, though we didn't manage to take down the troll mage before time ran out.

The troll mage: Not happy about having visitors in his lair!

We walked past this Angel whenever we took the pedway between our hotel (The Westin) and the Convention Centre.

After our party solved the monolith puzzle in Smoak, we set up the stone to look like a table and chairs, to confuse the next party. The "next party" turned out to be a bunch of WOTC VIPs!

Fighting the Satyr, one of our members hit him in what the DM referred to as the "sensitive tail region." The actors were great about posing for photos during (and after) our combat.

After defeating the Satyr, one of our party - Lady Myke - mourned his loss, while the rest of our party laughed at her fawning over the dead body.

Raven finds the treasure! (Much better than on the Golden Ticket run, whn I found the snake in the other chest, and dropped the lid.)

The Marriott renamed their restaurant to "the Red Dragon Inn" for the convention, and decorated it quite well.

Perkeo's Tusken Raider costume... complete with sound effects (which don't translate to print very well.)

On Friday, I got in a Five Aspects run with some DDA members and some players we hadn't met before. They turned out to be excellent party members, and the kid playing the Barbarian was a great slider on the combat board.

After killing the Ogre, the actor let us pose some shots with him - including this one of our Rogue backstabbing the monster after emerging from the Rogue tunnel.

What really did in the Ogre, though, was the Cleric casting Command on him, and ordering him to DIVE into the abyss.

Friday night in the True Tavern, Shrieking Emu ran the Bard's Contest again. It was great listening to the performances, and realizing - yet again - how much talent there is in the True Dungeon crowd.

I ran through Five Aspects with this party on Saturday morning. They were a lot of fun, and we did pretty well in the Dungeon.

Teardown went pretty well this year. It started at 6pm, and the bulk of it was over before 1am. Every year this gets handled a little better... and this time, people had enough energy when it was done to discuss ideas to make next year's tear down better yet.

Having some fun with the troll, at teardown.

This little fella was wandering past the True Adventures area with his Mom, and attracted a crowd who all wanted to take his photo. He must have had that sort of reaction everywhere they went. He was the cutest little Biker Scout in the world.
